[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]What is your current role at Skills?
How long have you been with Skills, and what other roles have you had while you’ve been here?
I have been a part of the Skills family for 13 years. It’ll be 14 years in April 2020. I first began work at Skills as a Direct Support Professional on the weekends which eventually turned into first shift after two years. I continued to work first shift for another four years before getting promoted to Residential Service Team Leader. After five years of being a Team Leader I was promoted to Lifesharing Specialist. I am also a CPR/First Aid Certified Instructor and a new Certified Investigator.
How does your program help people overcome obstacles in their lives?
We help those with a desire to live in a more independent setting and those that have lived with their biological families to maintain their choice of lifestyle. Lifesharing allows for the individual to explore new opportunities and independence by helping them to move forward as best as they can. The Lifesharing Program helps those that choose to participate in the program overcome obstacles like developmental growth, improve individual attention, and community participation by assisting them in their community in a setting that best fits their need.
How do you determine what type of support someone needs in order to best help them?
Support in the Lifesharing department for each person is determined by each individual on a case by case basis. Each person in an individual and the supports that are offered to them should be individualized as well.
What do you love about working at Skills?
I enjoy the flexibility that Skills offers and all of the opportunities that have allowed me to get where I am in the Lifesharing department. Although, I’ve always enjoyed working with the biological families in all of the roles I’ve filled. The families I’ve worked with have always been very appreciative of the care we provide.
