2. Is there a fee for this service?
Our drop-off recycling service is free. We do, however, charge a “pickup” fee depending on the size of the load which can range from 65¢/mile (for smaller loads using a van) to $1.65/mile (using a box truck) when we use our truck to collect a large amount of computer equipment. This fee schedule is for transport only. Please call in advance at 717-436-2101 to discuss arrangements and fees.
Skills computer recycling center is located 54 miles from Harrisburg and 40 miles east of State College in central Pennsylvania.
Special Instructions for Large Loads:
Large loads to be picked up by Skills need to be placed securely on square skids approximately 40" wide by 48" long (or smaller). Yes, we do accept Gaylords. A large load is considered to be 30 or more units; one unit is the equivalent of a tower/desktop, monitor, mouse, keyboard and printer.
3. What do you do with the computers you collect?
We disassemble the computers and mice and sort all the components before shipping to a recycler for further processing. Monitors are sized and placed on pallets for shipment. Keyboard cords are removed and then stacked on pallets for shipment. Printers are placed in Gaylord containers for shipment. Everything we collect is sent to various recyclers for further processing, testing, and/or refurbishing. All of our customers recycle our products in the United States.
4. What about the personal/business information on my hard drive?
All hard drives are destroyed using Department of Defense guidelines. We witness the destruction process. Unlike some other computer recycling options, Skills can provide you with a certificate of destruction upon request.
5. Do you sell computer parts to the public?
No. We do not perform any testing, so we cannot assure you of a working component.
6. I’ve already taken some components out of my computer. Will you still take it?
Absolutely! Bring it in.
