A Message from Skills Chairman of the Board
Mr. Ronald Bailey, ChairmanSkills of Central PA Board of Directors
I have been on the Skills of Central PA, Inc. (Skills) Board now for over 10 years, and in this time I have seen Skills programs grow, and new programs and services begin, as well as expand into other counties and regions. Skills proves to be a valuable resource for families and people looking for services for individuals with disabilities.
My wife, Nancy, and I have raised a child with a disability; he has lived with us his entire life. After 40 years, we had to make the very difficult decision, to find a provider to entrust his future and care. We put in a request to the Mifflin County Mental Health/Mental Retardation (MH/MR) Office and asked if Skills could be his provider. Our request for Tom was approved and the process began.
As a parent, I saw first-hand just how well Skills handles these kinds of transitions. It has really been a learning experience for all of us. My son was able to move into a Skills community home this past June. We were concerned how my son would handle this transition from his home to a community home. Thanks to Skills management team and the Mifflin County MH/MR Office, it was a very pleasurable experience for all of us. The transition was smooth, and it was handled very professionally by the Skills team. My wife and I are delighted and comforted, in knowing our son is happy and comfortable in his new home, and receiving very good care.
I see Skills continuing to expand and grow as long as the state and federal funds continue to support the specialized services and programs provided by Skills. In the past five years, Skills has worked diligently to ensure quality programs and services for people with disabilities. I see Skills as a leader in quality programs and services; I have considerable experience in quality management, and I know what it takes to consistently provide quality services. I truly appreciate the opportunity to serve on the Skills Board and plan on continuing to do so.
Mr. Ronald Bailey
Chairman, Skills of Central PA Board of Directors
