5th Annual E. F. “Pat” Houser Golf Tournament

Special guests Jeremy Boone, Drew Astorino and Andrew Daily with the 2010 Subaru provided by Stuckey Subaru.

On Monday, July 12, 2010, more than 100 golfers turned out to support Skills.

Golfers scores were very close and they had to work hard to compensate for the wind and many got a little wet with the passing thunderstorm which made for a close match. However, everyone enjoyed a great day of golf at the Elks.

Andrew Daily and Drew Astorino had fun helping the teams get on the green at the 10th hole, which the wind did not help with!

The Ninth Annual Discovery Garden Plant Sale exceeded expectations once again. Thank you to everyone who supported our annual Discovery Garden Plant Sale on May 15.

“The plant sale has gotten bigger and better each year, and it has become a real tradition in the community,” said Karen Claton, Volunteer Coordinator for Discovery Garden. “We look forward to seeing the loyal customers who come back every year to support our event.”

hypertufa bird baths Hypertufa birdbaths from Skills Horticultural Therapy Program

Skills and Discovery Garden received more donations than ever from area businesses and growers: The Home Depot, Tussey Mountain Mulch, Tom Thompson - Split Rail Daylilies, Patchwork Farms, Fox Hill Gardens, Bob Leidy, Spring Farm Greenhouse, Brubakers Greenhouse of Fredericksburg, and many others.

Individuals from the Skills Horticultural Therapy Program grew beautiful tomato and pepper plants, herbs and marigolds in their greenhouse and provided garden craft items such as stepping stones, hypertufa and bird baths for the sale — all of which were a huge hit.
