Lifesharing
Focus on the Person
Lifesharing Thru Family Living offers opportunities for people with developmental disabilities to live as part of an extended family
As a member of an extended family, individuals become active, participating members of their families and the communities in which those families live.

Lifesharing Thru Family Living
  • Allows people to focus on the whole person instead of the person's basic needs.
  • Provides individuals the opportunity to participate in the community - to make friends and become involved in community activities with the family.
  • Provides individuals the chance to be a neighbor, friend, a church member, a club member, and more.
Lifesharing
Lifesharing Thru Family Living's goal is participation, not just presence, in the everyday life of the community.

Lifesharing Families

Lifesharing families are of all ages, genders, races, nationalities, and religions. They are single people, single parents, empty nesters, and two-parent families with children.

Lifesharing families open their hearts and homes to people with developmental disabilities to provide security, support, guidance, and love.
Lifesharing families are carefully screened. The screening process involves a comprehensive homestudy including interviews, references, and background checks. Before making a commitment to Lifesharing, families must complete a 24-hour training program.

Matching Families with Individuals
Lifesharing Families

Lifesharing Thru Family Living emphasizes the importance of matching individuals and families.
Matching means a harmonizing of values, interests, and mutual commitments. Family Living Specialists work closely with the family and the individual and serve as the primary support to ensure a successful match.
After a Lifesharing "match" has been made, the provider will participate in the development and implementation of the person's program role.

Skills is looking for families and single persons to provide homes for individuals with developmental disabilities.
Support services, training, and a monthly stipend are provided to the family/persons who participate. This family living program, called Lifesharing, places people who have developmental disabilities in the home of a host individual or family.
