In 1997, Skills of Central Pennsylvania, Inc. opened the Northern Cambria Drop-In Center (NCDIC) in Ebensburg. Centrally located, NCDIC is an informal community center and support network for people involved with mental health concerns, and especially for those who live or work in the northern part of Cambria County.
Open Tuesday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the center offers a place for people to come together to develop, enjoy, and benefit from recreational, educational, and social pursuits in a comfortable environment. It is our belief that through natural supports rooted in the community the person with mental illness will be better able to regain and realize their strengths, abilities, and potential.
We are dedicated to respecting the unique needs of each individual, and realize that each person has their own recovery goals. Through community and program development we seek to assist the individual in finding and employing the means to recovery, and restoring a functional, balanced, and rewarding life.
Transportation to and from the center is available to residents of the surrounding area. People who live in northern Cambria County who have an access card through the office of medical assistance are eligible for a bus pass for Cambria Area Rural Transportation (CART).
The Northern Cambria Drop-In Center is operated with funding from the Cambria County MH/MR program and the United Way of Laurel Highlands. Skills provides a coordinator to help facilitate programs and activities, however, the center¹s programs and services are developed by an advisory committee which is comprised of consumers. |
