A "support team model" is used to assist people to learn better ways of interacting in a variety of settings.Each person referred fro BSS receives the services of a Behavior Support Specialist as part of their "support team". Team members may also include family, friends, and support staff.
The Behavior Support Specialist conducts an assessment which considers all aspects of an individual's life and how each part relates to the problems he or she is experiencing.
- Environments (Home, work, school, community)
- Social (Relationships, communication)
- Medical (Pain or illness contributing to the behavior)
- Psychiatric (Untreated or under treated mental illness)
Through collaboration with the team, the Behavior Support Specialist creates an individualized plan to help the person develop adaptive behaviors and reduce problem behavior that interfere with learning and community life.
